Joyce Gillespie Gaw, 79, of Columbia, MD, peacefully passed away in her home of natural causes on March 26th, 2015. Born Oct. 25, 1935, to Helen Furst and William Henry Gillespie, Joyce grew up in Mercer County, PA. In 1953, she graduated from Mercer High School, in Mercer, PA, and in 1958, from the University of Pittsburgh, College of Pharmacy, where she met her husband of 40 years, the late Robert John Gaw. Many friends and Sunrise family members who will miss her dearly and remember her fondly also survive Joyce.

Joyce spent most of her life living in Columbia, MD, with her loving husband Robert and was very involved with her family, friends, and community. Joyce has spent the last 14 years residing at Sunrise of Columbia where she made a new home for herself shortly after the passing of her husband. Joyce was a loving mother, the best mom anyone could ever hope for. Her resilience and energy were immeasurable, and she never complained about a thing. Joyce was grateful, loving, compassionate, and respectful to all those she encountered. Quiet, yet strong, Joyce often said, "getting old was not for sissies!"

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 1 from 11AM-1PM at WITZKE FUNERAL HOMES, INC.; 5555 Twin Knolls Road; Columbia, MD 21045; where a funeral service will follow at 1PM.
